POLICY-DRIVEN CHANGE

1_Sji5jRbJ7AfjtPqqQxYOsw

We see policy as a tool to tackle the challenge of racial inequity and injustice—the cause of our time.

We believe policy, along with well-defined goals, can be used by a body of stakeholders to determine the direction of travel and arc of change.

At The Black Policy Institute,  we have committed ourselves to developing an ecosystem of policy-led best practice initiatives that are applicable across different sectors. This will also increase cross sectoral learning and sustainability of race equity policy and practice.

This intentional, goal-oriented approach to policy-driven change is about providing the direction of travel, clarifying theories of change in racial equity, raising expectations for the improvements in racial equity outcomes and approaches, and catalysing activity.

Achieving new levels of racial equity requires new frameworks.  Our framework to deliver this incorporates leveraging the racial climate , the measurements of capacity to achieving change across sectors and the assessment of these.

We take racial equity seriously as a public goal and seek to work with people and organisations who are similarly driven.

SOLUTIONS - ACTION RESEARCH, PROOF OF CONCEPT AND PROJECT INCUBATION

ABOUT

Our objective is to strengthen organisations and society’s capacity to recognise and address all forms of anti-black racism by:

  • Improving the socio-economic position of black people UK
  • Generating sustainable and embedded solutions to enable black people to thrive within the UK
  • Broadening the democratic engagement and civic action of black people in the UK

We work with a network of existing agencies in the UK and globally to create  policies and practices that foster equity and inclusion of black people of African and Caribbean heritage.

HOW ARE WE DIFFERENT

We are prepared to combine thinking and doing.  In doing, we aim to pilot and incubate innovations. These incubations will test policy before promoting implementation issues before extending and promoting solutions.

WE WANT TO BUILD:

  • The quality and type of critical thinking around black people and racism
  • The quality and volume of civic, corporate action and change around race and racism
  • The quality and scope of individual action

CREATING RACIAL EQUITY ECO-SYSTEMS

Achieving racial equity requires a supportive ecosystem. We will work with cross-sector agencies to create an eco-system that improves  racial equity for black people.

FOSTERING COHERENT POLICY AND PRACTICE

We advocate for coherence in national and local race policy that is change driven rather than solely research-based. Our approach is rooted in practical experience of change leadership and management in all industries. We work with partners to engage in proof of concept, incubation and development of key policy recommendations.
